The DBR is beginning to raise a portion of the back road from the guard shack to just past the second crossover. We need 8-10 volunteers on Saturday, October 24 at 9 a.m. to set stakes every hundred feet along the east side of the road from the bridge to the curve where we buried the whale (at the beginning of High Pines).
These stakes will indicate the road height on the east side. The raised road will slope slightly to the west for proper drainage. Each stake has to be 2 feet off the east edge of the road and marked with the station and the proposed grade of the new road. After the road is completed and the post and cable fence re-installed, we have to replace our 100 foot station markers we have on the cable so we know where we are on the beach. In the old days, they used the telegraph poles to guide them!
This project is appropriate for teenage and adult volunteers. The group will meet at the guard shack on the east end of the bridge. There should be enough cars for those without 4 wheel drive to hitch a ride as the work moves along. Dress warmly for this job. Please e-mail Betsey at email@example.com if you are able to help.
