Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School for
a reception and presentation to launch another exciting year of events
sponsored by the Duxbury Beach Preservation Society (DBPS), a subcommittee
of the Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc. This year for our “Ed Night,” we are
proud to host John Chisholm, who will explore the local world of Sand Tiger
Sharks.
John is a
Marine Fisheries Biologist with The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries, as
well as a nature photographer and videographer. Since 2006, he has been
researching Sand Tiger Sharks in Duxbury - Kingston - Plymouth Bay. His
earliest research began with the discovery of a shark in a local salt water
pond. Since then, John and his team have tagged hundreds of Sand Tiger
Sharks in the 3 to 4 foot size range. Their extensive research has shown our
bay to be an important nursery habitat for newborn Sand Tiger sharks. Also,
to his credit, John has been able to combine his videography skills with his
research in contributing white shark footage to The Discovery Cannel's Shark
Week program, "Jaws Comes Home." Come enjoy his research results, stories,
and beautiful photography -- all giving us deeper insights to the lives of
our local sharks.
Admission is free, and light refreshments will be
served. Please spread the word, as others are welcome to join. This is a
family event, but it is more appropriate for children ages 5 and older. If
you have any questions, please contact either of the DBPS Co-Chairs, Betsey
Campbell at betsey@duxburybeach.com or
Tammy Kirk at tammy@duxburybeach.com.
