The annual cost of maintaining and preserving Duxbury Beach is shared by the Duxbury Beach Reservation and the town of Duxbury. The town contribution is the annual lease payment it makes to the Reservation, in recent years in the amount of $400,000. The Reservation spends approximately $500,000 each year to repair winter storm damage, maintain the parking lots and back road to Gurnet-Saquish, and fund the endangered species program. The Reservation’s average annual revenue is about $600,000, which comes from the town lease ($400,000) and a portion of the parking receipts (approximately $200,000) from the pavilion parking lot. The Reservation puts any extra money into its storm damage fund, trying to build a reserve for large storm events that require expenditures in the millions of dollars.
You can become a contributor to the storm damage fund by becoming a member of the Duxbury Beach Preservation Society, the fund-raising committee of the Reservation.
